16 jawans killed in Sikkim accident;  Induction of three Junior Commissioned Officers


New Delhi : Sixteen jawans died on Friday in a horrific accident at Jhema in North Sikkim where a military truck carrying a sharp curve crashed into a river. These include three Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs). Four jawans who were injured in the accident have been released. The information was given by the army itself.

The truck would have been part of a convoy of three vehicles, which would have left for Chattenhoon Thangu in the morning. After the accident, the rescue operation was started immediately and four injured soldiers were brought out. Unfortunately, three Junior Commissioned Officers and 13 jawans died in accidents. In this sad moment, the Indian Army stands steadfastly with the bereaved families,’ the military said.

’16 bravehearts of the Indian Army lost their lives in the horrific accident that took place on Friday at Jhema in North Sikkim, in the army’s truck,’ the army said in its statement. Conservation Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed deep grief over the accident. The country is grateful to the service and commitment of the jawans who died. My condolences to the bereaved family. Injured jawans will recover early in the morning, only prayer!’, he tweeted like this.

Condolences from President, Prime Minister

President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the accident. ‘Extremely saddened to hear about the martyrdom of the brave soldiers of the Indian Army in the road accident in Sikkim. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray for the injured jawans to get well soon’, tweeted Murmu yane banana aahe. And, ‘Extremely saddened by the loss of lives of our brave army men in the accident in Sikkim. Condolences to the bereaved families. Injured jawans recover soon’, such tweets are on behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office.
