Gandhi said, “Our opponents outside can see what is happening in India. They can see that India is divided, full of hatred and they can clearly see the arrogance of the leadership. Today we are in a situation for the first time where the Chinese have occupied thousands of kilometers of our land.” He said the army has accepted that Chinese troops have occupied Indian soil, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has publicly denied it. Gandhi on Tuesday began the 13th day of his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ with thousands of party workers from Cherthala in Alappuzha district. The journey started with the planting of Rambutan sapling at St. Michael’s College. It was organized by the environmental wing of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee, Shasthravedi. The yatra covered a distance of about 30 kms and concluded at Aroor in the border area of Ernakulam district.
The leaders involved in the yatra have stayed in Ernakulam district tonight. Senior Congress leaders K Muraleedharan, Pawan Khera, Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly VD Satheen and Shanimol Usman, among others, accompanied Gandhi. Men, women and children were seen waiting along a highway to catch a glimpse of Gandhi. Gandhi also stopped and met him on the way. The Congress’ 3,570-km and 150-day long padyatra began on September 7 from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and will conclude in Jammu and Kashmir. The ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ had reached Kerala on the evening of September 10 and would enter Karnataka on October 1. In the first 19 days, it will cover a distance of 450 km passing through seven districts of Kerala.
