SpiceJet: Loss-making SpiceJet sends 80 pilots on leave without pay for 3 months

SpiceJet Update: The airline company SpiceJet has sent about 80 pilots on leave without pay for three months. Airlines have taken this decision with the aim of reducing their expenses. SpiceJet has been running in losses continuously for the last four years. Following the DGCA order, airlines have been operating less than 50 per cent of the flights since July.

Spiget currently has 90 flights. At present, only 50 airlines are operating daily. According to media reports, SpiceJet has sent 40 pilots of B737 aircraft and 40 pilots of Q400 on leave for three months and these pilots will not be paid salary for these three months. The airlines have taken this decision for the purpose of reducing expenses immediately.

SpiceJet said that after the grounding of the B737 MAX aircraft in 2019, the airlines had inducted 30 aircraft into the fleet. Airlines continued to recruit pilots thinking that the B77 MAX would start flying again. But due to the continuous grounding of the B737 MAX, the number of pilots in SpiceJet increased. Now this decision has been taken for the purpose of reducing expenditure. According to the airlines, it never lays off any employee, which is its policy. He followed this policy even during the Corona epidemic.

According to the airlines, they will soon induct MAX aircraft, after which these pilots will be called back to work. SpiceJet has suffered a loss of Rs 1725 crore in 2021-22, which was Rs 998 crore in 2020-21.
