Taiwan Earthquake VIDEO: There has been a severe earthquake in Taiwan. In the last 24 hours, 100 tremors have been felt here and their intensity is increasing. While an earthquake of 6.5 magnitude occurred on Saturday, its magnitude was measured at 7.2 on Sunday. The epicenter of the earthquake is Yujing Province. According to local media reports, a two-storey residential building collapsed near the epicenter of the earthquake. The tremors were felt at the northern end of the island in the capital Taipei. The danger has increased after the tsunami alert. If a tsunami strikes, it can cause great devastation as far as Japan. Taiwan’s Taitung County was hit by a 6.4 earthquake on Saturday night and has felt several aftershocks.
Earthquake in Taiwan, alert in Japan too
The Japan Meteorological Agency has also issued a tsunami alert after the earthquake in Taiwan. Waves up to 1 m (3 ft) high have been observed in the sea here. According to the agency, initial waves of the tsunami are expected to hit Japan’s westernmost island Yonaguni Island, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) east of Taiwan, at around 4:10 p.m.
