Mumbai: BKC Police has arrested a 72-year-old woman for practicing as a Lawyer without Law Degree. According to the police, the woman was practicing law in the Bandra Family Court for the last seven years. Police have identified the accused woman as Rebecca Mordecai alias Kashinath Sohoni, a resident of Pali Hill.

According to the FIR, she has appeared as an advocate in a family court on at least three occasions in 2015 and twice in 2021. Seeking her police custody from the Bandra magistrate court on Sunday, an officer of the BKC police station told the magistrate that she appeared as an advocate in various courts and cheated the people as well as the judiciary. She was using a sanad card which was in someone else’s name. He did not submit his law degree or sanad card and did not cooperate with the police investigation.

The complainant said that in December last year, I came to know that this woman was appearing in the family court and was filing Vakalatnama without license or degree. The magistrate court on Sunday sent the woman to police custody till September 20 for further investigation.
