The idols recovered by the Mahewaghat police are about five hundred years old. One of these is a yellow metal (ashtadhatu) idol of Thakur ji. While the other broken idol is of mixed metal. The height of the Ashtadhatu idol is 2 feet 3 inches. The weight of this idol is 61.8 kg. The idol is molded on a square base. Both the hands of the idol are bent at the elbows towards the front. There is a chain type design around the neck and a locket shape at the bottom.

The design of the armlet is made on both the hands and the anklet on both the feet. 5 pieces of mixed metal idol have been recovered. Which consists of the head, legs and trunk. The weight of all the pieces is 46.1 kg. It is of gray colour. SP Hemraj Meena told that to know the specialty of these two idols, they will be sent to the lab. All the arrested accused had gathered in Kaushambi to test the idols.

The arrested accused Ram Kishore told that when the talks of selling the idol were going on in the last round, everyone wanted to test the idol once. That’s why everyone gathered in the dark late at night under a tree near the Mahewaghat bridge on the Kaushambi-Chitrakoot highway. However, this information was received by the police and all were arrested. At the same time, Mannu Sonkar and Shankar Sonkar escaped from the spot.

Two accused of theft have died
Ram Kishore told the police, about 15 years ago he along with his cousin brothers Chandrika Vishwakarma and Raju Patel stole idols from a temple built in a village. From there, the idols were hidden in a pile of straw on the bullock cart and reached Raju Patel’s village overnight. There he buried him by digging a pit next to a temple located a little away from his house. He told that he had forgotten the way due to night at that time. Tried searching several times, but his cousin Chandrika said that the idols would be taken out only when the time came. About ten years ago, Raju Patel died while waiting. Chandrika also died three years later. He then took out the idols.

Both the idols remained with Ram Prasad and Musaddar for three years.

Ram Kishore told that after receiving the idol three years ago, it was first placed with Ram Prasad. The idols were kept here for a few days. But, he was always afraid of her. So the idols were shifted to Musaddar’s place. He was trying to sell them. Musaddar had also broken one of the idols kept nearby. By taking its pieces, he kept estimating the price.

The accused were trying to sell the idol for three months.
According to the police, the arrested accused were not getting buyers to sell the idols. Together they formed a team, most of whom were involved in the illegal business of idol smuggling. These people contacted Nanka Vishwakarma. Also, after the talks, the idols were shifted to his place. Nanka talks to Babuji Sonkar, Mannu Sonkar and Shankar Sonkar. These people shifted the idols to Mannulal’s Bally and Funty’s shop in Kaushambi.

Mannu Sonkar and Shankar Sonkar approached Usman alias Chand Babu through Santosh Patil, Jitendra Pasi and Vipin Shukla to sell the idols. After the conversation, Osman once talked about Ram Kishore and his associates through conferencing with a businessman from Kerala.

Police caught it
Police have arrested 10 miscreants, including Murthy, from Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Fatehpur and Banda districts. The arrested miscreants have been named as Usman Ulla alias Chand Babu, Ram Kishore, Ram Prasad, Musaddar, Nanka, Neeraj Vishwakarma, Jitendra Shukla, Babuji Sonkar, Santosh Kumar Patel, Vipin Shukla.
