Cheetahs in India have satellite caller ID around their necks; How does this technology work? A to Z Counsel

Hindustan Hindi News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released eight cheetahs brought to India from Namibia on his birthday at the Kuno National Park in Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh. After about 70 years, this creature has returned to the country and due to the decreasing number of cheetahs in the world, it is included in the list of endangered animals. To keep an eye on these cheetahs, the help of satellite caller ID will be taken. Let us know what this technology is and how it works.

Bringing cheetahs to India and leaving them in the wild is not enough and they will be closely monitored. Obviously, it is not easy to monitor many cheetahs in dense forest and initially they will be kept in a five square kilometer enclosure. Satellite caller ID around the neck will make it easier to record their movements and health, and this technology has been in use for a long time.

How does Animal Migration Tracking work?

Animal migration tracking is used to find out what type of activity an organism does in the forest, how active, at what time it is more active and what is its current status. In this way the daily routine of the animal or the environment around it is also not affected and it feels comfortable. Other methods of tracking (eg, installing motion-sensing cameras or using a drone) also cost more and are not always effective.

Understand how Satellite Caller ID works

The satellite caller ID worn by cheetahs has the same GPS chip as those found in smartphones or other mobile devices. With the help of this chip, satellites can detect changes in the position and location of animals and send the data to experts. Caller ID is designed in such a way that it is not harmed in any way by animal movements. Satellites can easily detect the electronic signals transmitted by these GPS tags.

Information related to the health of the animal will also be available

With the help of caller ID, not only the location of the animal, information about its physical condition or changes in it can also be collected. Such tags can also transmit the animal’s body temperature and other health-related data via satellite. Caller ID comes in handy when you don’t want to catch an animal again after leaving it in the wild and just want to monitor it. Based on the health data, treatment or help can be sent to the animal if needed.

Caller ID installed on other animals in Kuno

There are also dozens of leopards and hyenas in Kuno, which can harm cheetahs. The administration has also installed radio caller ID on 10 leopards and 10 hyenas, so that their behavior and behavior around cheetahs can be tracked. With the caller ID, it will be decided that these animals do not step into human habitation and such incidents can be curbed.
