'The past gives a chance for a bright future', says PM Modi on the return of cheetahs

Bhopal:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left the cheetahs brought from Namibia in the Kuno National Park on his birthday. Seven decades after the cheetahs were declared extinct in India, cheetahs have been brought by special cargo aircraft as part of the project to resettle this species in the country. After releasing the cheetahs in the National Park, PM Modi said that ‘the past gives a chance for a bright future’.

PM Modi said, ‘I also thank our friendly country Namibia and the government there, with whose cooperation the leopards have returned to the soil of India after decades. Decades ago, the age-old link of biodiversity that was broken has become extinct, today we have a chance to reconnect it. Today the cheetah has returned to the soil of India. And I will also say that along with these cheetahs, the nature loving consciousness of India has also been awakened with full force.

He said, ‘It is unfortunate that we declared cheetahs extinct from the country in 1952, but for decades no meaningful effort was made to rehabilitate them. Today, in the nectar of independence, now the country has started to rehabilitate cheetahs with new energy. It is true that, when nature and environment are protected, then our future is also secure. The avenues of development and prosperity also open up. When cheetahs run again in Kuno National Park, the grassland ecosystem here will be restored again, biodiversity will increase further.

At the same time, he said, ‘The countrymen will have to show patience, wait for a few months to see the cheetahs released in Kuno National Park. Today these cheetahs have come as guests, they are unaware of this area. For these cheetahs to be able to make Kuno National Park their home, we will have to give these cheetahs a few months’ time.
Following the international guidelines, India is trying its best to settle these cheetahs.
