The central government has launched the medicine in the market for the patients of diabetes at an affordable rate. The name of this medicine is Sitagliptin. The price of a leaf of 10 tablets has been kept at Rs 60. This medicine will be sold at generic pharmacy stores Jan Aushadhi Kendras.

What did the government say: According to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the Drugs and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) has started making Sitagliptin and its new editions available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras. The maximum retail price for a packet of ten tablets of Sitagliptin Phosphate 50 mg is Rs.60 and for a packet of 100 mg tablets is Rs.100.

According to the statement, the prices of all types of this medicine are 60 to 70 percent less than the branded medicines. The price of branded medicines ranges from Rs 160 to Rs 258.

More than 7 crore patients: According to a report by the Indian Council of Medical Research-India (ICMR-INDIA), currently 740 million people are living with diabetes. At the same time, 8 crore people are pre-diabetic. Pre-diabetic patients are rapidly turning into diabetes. It is estimated that by 2045, 13.50 million people in India will be suffering from diabetes.
