In Iran, 5 people were killed in police firing on protesters protesting moral policing. More than 80 are injured. These demonstrations started in the western part of the country. This area is called Kurdistan. People here have been demanding a separate country for many years.

22-year-old Mahsa Amini was taken into custody by the police for not covering her head. Mahsa was of Kurdish origin. She fell into a coma while in custody and died on 16 September. After this the anger of the women flared up. After the cities of Kurdistan, there have also been demonstrations in the capital Tehran. Women are demanding that the hijab should be made optional instead of compulsory.

Khamenei, 83, was also the President of Iran from 1981 to 1989. It was under his leadership that the Islamic Revolution took place in 1979.

In the town of Sakej in Mahsa Amini, a clash broke out between police and protesters. Protesters gathered outside the Governor’s House after Mahsa’s funeral. Here the security personnel opened fire.

According to Hengav, an organization working for the rights of Kurds, two people have been killed and more than 30 people have been injured in the firing. Among them are 2 boys and three women. A young man named Kian Derksha has been shot in the head.

More than 250 arrested for suppressing demonstration
In cities with a Kurdish population, police arrested more than 250 people on Monday. Security forces are conducting operations against the protesters. Homes are being raided. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is also involved in the operation.

A Kurdish activist, who did not wish to be named, said security forces were targeting people working for the Kurds. Despite this, until Mahsa gets justice, the demonstrations will continue.
