Welfare schemes will continue even after the matter of ‘free gift’ reaches the court: CM Gehlot A to Z Counsel

‘मुफ्त सौगात’ का मामला कोर्ट पहुंचने के बावजूद कल्याणकारी योजनाएं रहेंगी जारी : CM गहलोत

Referring to his government’s Chiranjeevi scheme in Rajasthan, electricity up to 50 units and free mobile phones to women, Gehlot said, “When we start welfare schemes, these schemes are called Prime Minister Revdi. The matter is pending in the Supreme Court, but we are not bothered about it.

The Supreme Court had on August 26 directed the listing of petitions against the promise of free pre-poll facilities by political parties before a three-judge bench, saying the issues raised require a “comprehensive” hearing. The court’s order comes in the backdrop of the ongoing debate on free facilities vs welfare schemes. A political tussle broke out between the states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition parties over the issue.

Gehlot said that according to the Constitution, governments should work for the welfare of the people and eliminate inequality. He said, “There are schemes for social security all over the world and we have also started these schemes.”

Gehlot, who was on a one-day visit to Jodhpur, was addressing people on the occasion of the inauguration of 512 ‘Indira Rasoi’ in the state. He said that the number of these subsidized shops has reached 870. Also, he said that this number will soon increase to 1,000. On this occasion, Gehlot also spoke to some operators of ‘Indira Rasoi’.

Later, the Chief Minister attended the inauguration of the renovation work at Barkatullah Stadium at a cost of Rs 25 crore. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) and Jodhpur Development Authority (JDA), handing over the stadium to RCA for sporting events.

RCA President Vaibhav Gehlot thanked the government for its cooperation in completing the works at the stadium as per the rules and standards of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Chief Minister said that the stadium is now equipped with all facilities and called upon the players to take advantage of it.
