Queen Elizabeth Funeral: President Draupadi Murmu will attend Queen Elizabeth's Funeral on September 19


President Draupadi Murmu will visit London from September 17-19 to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and offer condolences on behalf of the Indian government. Queen Elizabeth II, former head of state of the United Kingdom and head of state of the Commonwealth of Nations, died at the age of 96 on 8 September at her Balmoral Castle summer residence in Scotland. President Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the demise of Queen Elizabeth.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar had visited the British High Commission in New Delhi on 12 September to offer condolences to India. India also observed a day of national mourning on 11 September. During the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II, relations between the United Kingdom and India have grown significantly. A statement from India’s foreign ministry said the British monarch, as head of the Commonwealth of Nations, has played a vital role in the welfare of millions of people across the world. President Draupadi Murmu will attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and offer condolences on behalf of the Indian government.

The President will travel to London from 17-19 September to attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. On Wednesday the coffin will be carried on a gun carriage to Westminster Hall as part of a grand military procession. Members of the public will be allowed to walk near the coffin 24 hours a day until the morning of the funeral, which will be attended by a number of world leaders, including US President Joe Biden. Queen Elizabeth II, the former British head of state and head of the Commonwealth of Nations, died on 8 September at the age of 96.

King Charles and members of the royal family received the coffin of the late Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, with thousands lined the streets to mark its arrival. Earlier, President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed condolences. PM Modi remembered him as a “stern”, saying he “provided inspiring leadership to his nation and people” and “identified with dignity and decency in public life”.
