Thane : To protect and conserve the environment in the city as well as increasing urbanization, the first Miyawaki Forest in Thane where more trees can be planted in less space will be set up at various places in the city. This work will be done through Green Yatra, an organization doing environment-friendly work and initially 3 thousand sq. km. Along with the beautification campaign on cleanliness being run by the Thane Municipal Corporation, initiatives are being taken to create a green belt in the city. Nature Park at Koparkhairane, the Jewel of Navi Mumbai, a one of a kind urban forest has been established. Which is definitely benefiting the environment. On the same lines, Commissioner Abhijit Bangar held a meeting with an organization called Green Yatra on Tuesday to make such a forest in Thane city. The office bearers of Horticulture Department and the office bearers of Green Yatra Sanstha were present in the meeting.
Municipal Commissioner Bangar said that Thane city is blessed with a land rich in biodiversity like Yeoor. But due to increasing urbanization the number of trees within the city is decreasing day by day. As an alternative, Miyawaki forest will be created so that maximum afforestation can be done in less space and due to this increasing urbanization as well as environmental balance will be maintained.

A total of eight sites have been identified
A total of eight places have been identified for the creation of such forests. In this, 8000 square meters in Nisarg Udyan located in Mullabagh, 5000 square meters in Dbujak in Mogharpada, 7300 square meters in Mogharpada Reserved Open Plot A, 1500 square meters in Plot B, 4700 square meters in Kopri have been identified. Along with this, a total of 7.6 acres, 1 thousand square meters of land has been selected in Nagla Bandar and 3 thousand square meters of land near Parsik Visarjan Ghat. Commissioner Bangar said that the Miyawaki forest will be constructed with the CSR fund and there will be no financial burden on the Municipal Corporation. Along with this, the institution will also bear the expenses of plantation and maintenance for three years.
Although space is currently limited, Miyawaki is a method of planting trees where a forest can be created in a small space. In a small space where 6 four wheelers are parked, 300 different types of trees can be planted. The initiative to make such a small forest in our city has been taken by an environmental organization named ‘Green Yatra’. Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar directed the Tree Authority Department to work under the effort to plant saplings in Miyawaki style in the area developed under the Water Front Development Project in Municipal area. He said that the departments of Hiranandani Garden, Waghbil, Central Park etc. should be included in this.
