While the by-election for Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat is a test for the SP and BJP candidates, it is a litmus test for the five sitting MLAs of the Lok Sabha constituency. The MLAs had passed their test in the assembly elections held only seven months ago, but to prove themselves, they will have to pass this ordeal again. In such a situation, the prestige of the MLAs is also at stake.
After the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the by-election is being held on Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. Voting for the by-election is to be held on December 5. Although six candidates are in the fray, but the main contest is between SP candidate Dimple Yadav and BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya. This is the first election test of both these candidates in the battle of Mainpuri. Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency consists of five assembly constituencies. It includes Mainpuri Sadar seat, Bhogaon, Kishni and Karhal in Mainpuri district as well as Jaswantnagar seat in Etawah district.
This by-election is no less than a litmus test for the MLAs who won from these seats in the assembly elections held in April. BJP MLA Jaiveer Singh is a minister in the Yogi cabinet from Mainpuri Sadar seat, while Ramnaresh Agnihotri of BJP won from Bhogaon. Apart from this, Brajesh Katheria is the MLA from Kishni on SP ticket, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav himself from Karhal seat and Praspa chief Shivpal Singh Yadav from Jaswantnagar seat.
The challenge before these MLAs is to save their branch. If his party loses in the constituency of sitting MLAs, it will not be favorable for his political life as well as for the next assembly elections. In such a situation, the MLAs are also exerting their full strength to make their party win in their respective constituencies.
Mainpuri Sadar and Karhal most important
While SP is trying its best to get ahead in Mainpuri Sadar seat, BJP’s main focus is on Karhal. In fact, Jaiveer Singh, the BJP MLA from Mainpuri Sadar seat, is the tourism minister. On the other hand, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav himself is the MLA from Karhal, who is also the leader of the opposition in the assembly. In such a situation, the prestige of the honorable is at stake in both these seats.
