MumbaiThe Congress on Wednesday urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to convene an all-party meeting immediately and clarify the state government’s stand on the issue of the ongoing border dispute with Karnataka. Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat also said that the recent attacks on Marathi-speaking people living in border areas in Karnataka are very serious.
“Is the central government giving instructions to Karnataka on this issue,” he asked. Thorat said at the press conference, “The border dispute has assumed a different form. Trucks, buses and other vehicles are being damaged in Karnataka. Maharashtra will not tolerate such attacks from Karnataka.”

He said that while the opposition parties in Maharashtra have expressed concern over the border issue and stand firmly with the Marathi people, the Chief Minister (Eknath Shinde) is still silent.
Former minister Thorat said, “What is the stand of Maharashtra on the border dispute? What will be his next step? Since there is a BJP government in Karnataka and at the Centre, is the central government giving instructions to Karnataka on this issue? We don’t know about it but since it is a serious matter, our chief minister should call leaders of all parties in the state and discuss it.” “We should be informed of the facts and the steps that the state government is going to take,” he said.
