Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has promoted 64 Head Constables of its Animal Transport Cadre (HC/AT) to the newly created post of Assistant Sub Inspector on a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) basis. This was one of the most awaited and biggest promotion in the history of one of the toughest cadres of ITBP Animal Transport (AT), which is deployed at remote border posts in difficult terrains in mountainous ranges of 3488 kms. The AT cadre also contributes to the training of dogs, with a special dimension of providing the best training in the country for K9s. ITBP has ponies, mules and yaks, managed by its AT cadre officers, to aid in logistics supply in harsh border areas.

Heading the DPC was DIG Sudhakar Natarajan, the senior-most officer of the force’s veterinary cadre. There were two other members in the DPC who scrutinized the documents required for promotion. All 64 posts of Assistant Sub Inspector in AT cadre of ITBP are newly created posts to open up the avenues of promotion for the personnel and boost the already high morale. All 64 head constables will now become subordinate officers (SO). All have served 25-30 years in ITBP. Ministry of Home Affairs had notified RR (Recruitment Rules) for the post of ASI/AT on 21/7/22 and this fast track DPC has ensured that the promotion is implemented without any delay.
DIG Sudhakar Natarajan said, “There is no greater joy for an officer than this. It is an honor to lead this DPC and have been given this responsibility to ensure the selection and promotion of 64 personnel. There is really no happiness for me more than this pleasant duty.” The DPC has recommended his promotion to the ASI rank in Pay Matrix Level-5 (Rs 29,000 – Rs 92,300).
