A controversy erupted on Sunday over a statement by Trinamool leader Madan Mitra that those involved in violence and attacks on police during the BJP’s march to the West Bengal Secretariat “will be taught a lesson in just ten minutes”. Said TMC is not in favor of retaliatory action for BJP’s “disruptive policies”. The TMC MLA said that he only wanted to tell BJP what “TMC can do but will not go to that extent”. Responding to Mitra’s statement, senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha said that the TMC leader is increasingly making dangerous remarks and has lost the support of the people.
It is pertinent to mention that while speaking at a public meeting in his constituency Kamarhati, Mitra said that it would not take more than ten minutes to beat up those involved in hooliganism and vandalism. These people have attacked government properties and threatened the TMC. Mitra was referring to Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari’s remarks to police personnel when he was arrested on September 13 before the march to the Secretariat began. Mitra said, “We can retaliate with twice the force of the attackers. We can send two boys on a bike who will hurl four crude bombs, which will make everyone who talks at length run away.”
