The Allahabad High Court has reprimanded the Central Postal Department for fighting a case for seven years on behalf of the Department of Posts against a compensation of Rs 4,500. A single bench of Justice Vivek Chaudhary has dismissed the petition of the Senior Superintendent of the Department of Posts.
In the year 2014, the Lok Adalat of Moradabad imposed a fine of Rs 4,500 on the postal department. Compensation was imposed by the postal department for the loss of passport and demand draft sent by speed post. The order was passed by the Permanent Lok Adalat of Moradabad on 30 September 2014.
Instead of paying compensation to the victim, the postal department challenged this decision of the Lok Adalat in the Allahabad High Court. The Department of Posts had filed the petition in the year 2015. This petition was pending in the High Court for the last seven years. After the completion of the hearing, the single bench of Justice Vivek Chaudhary had reserved its decision in this matter on 16 November. The court not only rejected the petition of the postal department but also expressed deep displeasure.
