Mumbai : Bollywood veteran actor Prem Chopra was born on 23 September 1935 in Lahore, Punjab to a Punjabi Hindu family Ranbir Lal and Ruprani Chopra. The family moved to Shimla after the partition of India. The actor is celebrating his 87th birthday today. Prem Chopra has also worked in the newspaper ‘The Times of India’ during his Struggle days. Where he used to work in the circulation department. In which he used to oversee the circulation of the newspaper in Bengal, Odisha and Bihar. For which he had to stay on a 20-day tour. Due to which he did not get time to audition. Prem Chopra had solved this too. Whenever he used to go out, he used to call the agents at the station itself. In such a situation, he used to finish the 20-day tour in 12 days.
Prem Chopra started his film career by acting as a hero in Jagjit Sethi’s film ‘Chowdhary Karnail Singh’. For which he got 2500 rupees as fee. However, the film proved to be a hit. Prem Chopra has played his role in 380 films in more than 60 years. He is best known for his role of villain in most of the movies. Although his father wanted him to become a doctor or an Indian Administrative Service officer, he moved to Mumbai to fulfill his dream of acting in Bollywood films, despite strong opposition from his parents.
