New DelhiFollowing the dismal performance of the Indian team at the FIH World Cup 2023 in Odisha, men’s hockey coach Graham Reid has decided to step down. At the same time, the team’s analytical coach Greg Clark and scientific advisor Mitchell David Pemberton have also submitted their resignations.
It is noteworthy that the Indian team finished at the 9th position in the World Cup which ended on Sunday. In this World Cup, Germany defeated Belgium in a penalty shoot-out to win their third title and first title since 2006.
This time, the Hockey World Cup was hosted by India. At the same time, India was considered to be a strong contender for this cup. But a loss against New Zealand in the crossover match put the team out of the competition.
Graham Reid was appointed India’s coach in April 2019. Under his leadership, Team India won a historic bronze medal in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. At the same time, Reid announced his retirement, saying, “The time has come for me to step down and hand over the reins to the next management.”
He said, “It has been an honor and a privilege to work with the team and Hockey India and I have enjoyed every moment of this wonderful journey. I wish the team all the best.
