In Delhi, top officials of eight police districts, including the communally sensitive North-East and North-West, have been directed to enhance people’s trust, including preventing hate crimes and street crime. In February 2020, riots broke out in the North-East district after clashes between supporters of the amended Citizenship Act and those opposing it, in which at least 53 people were killed and over 200 were injured.

There was a communal clash during Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri area of North West district on April 16 this year, though no casualty was reported. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deepender Pathak visited eight districts and issued instructions to the ground staff. Taking feedback from them. Pathak told PTI-language, “I have directed the heads of all the eight districts of my jurisdiction to emphasize on building public trust, including curbing hate crimes and street crimes.”
Eight of Delhi’s 15 police districts come under Pathak’s jurisdiction which include North, North-East, North-West, Central, Rohini, Shahdara, East, Northeast and Outer North districts. The northern district houses the Lieutenant Governor’s office, the chief minister’s residence and the assembly building, while the central district comprises Old Delhi, Raj Ghat and other places of historical importance. Ghazipur and Singhu Border, which have been the center of farmers’ agitation for more than a year, come under East and Outer North district respectively.
