Changing power in UP: Politics of cities will be in the hands of women, six out of 17 municipal corporations are safe for women A to Z Counsel

Women will now have power in the municipal corporations of Western UP. In the reservation issued for the municipal body, a total of six municipal corporation seats have been reserved for women, out of which five corporations are from western UP. That is, women mayors will be elected in these five cities. The entire center of urban power will remain around women.

On Monday, reservation was issued in the municipal elections. The reservation for mayor elections was also issued for total 17 municipal corporations of the state. Of these, reservation has been fixed for women only in six corporations. Women candidates will contest in Ayodhya. Leaving only Ayodhya, all the five municipal corporations are from western UP where women mayors will be in power.

Among these, scheduled caste women in Agra, OBC women in Mathura Vrindavan, OBC women in Aligarh, women candidates in Saharanpur and Moradabad will only be able to contest the mayor’s election. Due to the reservation of women in these corporations, the equation has completely turned upside down. Where many old stalwarts have started doing maths to field their wives in the election battle, many have lost their hopes.

There is not a single woman MLA in these cities
The surprising thing is that there is not a single woman MLA in the assembly constituencies falling in these cities. Most of the parties did not give tickets to the MLA candidates here. Even if one or two candidates got tickets, they could not win. That means women’s politics in these cities will remain with these women only. This will also promote women empowerment.

….only three cities left
Only three corporations of western UP remained which are not reserved for women. Meerut recently has a woman mayor. This time Meerut has been reserved for OBC. Apart from this, Bareilly and Shahjahanpur have been kept in unreserved. However, women can also enter the electoral fray from here.
