Rakesh Pathak, a resident of Kalyanpur, is the first diabetic patient in the country, whose stem cell therapy has been done. He was given therapy at Hallett’s Department of Surgery on 16 August. On September 20, he was called for an investigation and a startling change was seen in him.

Insulin level has decreased in the patient. It is evident that the consumption of insulin has increased in the patient’s body. The patient was examined by Dr. BS Rajput, Specialist in Stem Cell Therapy and Visiting Professor, Department of Regenerative Medicine, and Dr. Sanjay Kala, Principal, GSVM Medical College. He told that the follow-up tests of the patient will be done for six months now. After this, a decision will be taken regarding giving the second dose of stem cells.

Rakesh Pathak’s blood sugar level was continuously elevated. Even the medicines were not working. He used to walk 10 km in the morning before being given stem cell therapy and then his morning blood sugar was 185 on an empty stomach. Blood sugar two hours after eating was 375 and HbA1c was 9.8. Now he walks only one kilometer. In Tuesday’s test, sugar was 87 on an empty stomach, 109 after two hours of eating and HbA1c eight. HbA1c is the average blood sugar level for three months. So many good results have been achieved even after the medicine is halved and the walk is so short. Dr. Kala told that therapy has been given to a Berger patient and another patient of brain disease on Tuesday.
